WWE had it’s most recent batch of talent cuts on September 21, when many stars from both the main roster and NXT were released from their contracts.

While most of the names released had not featured on television in recent months, one name who was regularly on TV when he was released was Mustafa Ali.
Ali had been effectively moved to NXT, where he was set to face off with Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship at this Saturday’s NXT No Mercy event.

With Ali being released, obviously the match will no longer be happening, with Trick Williams instead earning the shot at Mysterio on the show, but it’s not just No Mercy that will see a change of plans.
Per Fightful Select, there were several people in the company said to be unhappy with Ali’s release from WWE.

Ali had recently been picking up steam on the NXT brand, with sources that Fightful spoke to being frustrated with the lack of communication between the main roster and NXT.
Specifically, some of the frustration emanated from the fact that there has recently been a renewed effort to stack NXT with notable names, and in addition to losing one of those names, a match set to take place between two main roster talent is now no longer happening.
Those that Fightful spoke to had said that there had been no indication as of that Tuesday that Ali was going to be cut, and no indication that any cuts would be happening to those with a main roster contract.
