More updates have emerged on AJ Styles legitimate injury status, following conflicting reports about his appearance on SmackDown.
Styles’ in-ring return didn’t end as the Phenomenal One would’ve hoped, with his bout against Carmelo Hayes called off after he seemingly suffered a foot injury on the October 4 SmackDown episode.
There was some confusion among fans about whether the injury was planned or real, fuelled by recent reports.
While Fightful Select initially reported that the injury angle was planned and AJ Styles was fine, WWE broadcaster Jackie Redmond and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer indicated that Styles’ injury was legitimate.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has now provided an update, corroborating Dave Meltzer’s report that the word backstage is that Styles is actually injured.
Sapp took to Twitter to note:
The word internally is that he's injured. We will follow up

Jackie Redmond previously stated that Styles suffered a “midfoot ligament sprain” also known as a Lisfranc injury.
Styles shared Redmond’s tweet:
I believe everything happens for a reason. I’ll keep you updated. https://t.co/MgTn7awnV8
