There’s been a major update on WWE’s plans for Seth Rollins and his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.
Despite his involvement in the big angle with The Rock, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes at the WrestleMania Kickoff event, Rollins will in fact defend his own title at WrestleMania.
That announcement was made during tonight’s February 9 episode of SmackDown as Triple H, Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis opened the show.
They confirmed that there’ll be a men’s Elimination Chamber match at the event by the same name on February 24, and the winner of that will challenge Rollins at WrestleMania.
There’ll be a series of qualifiers across both Raw and SmackDown the next couple of weeks to determine the participants, with two already decided tonight.
In SmackDown’s opening match , Drew McIntyre qualified with a win over AJ Styles, and in the main event, Randy Orton beat Sami Zayn to qualify as well.
On Monday’s episode of Raw, there’ll be two qualifying matches in the form of LA Knight vs Ivar, and Bronson Reed vs Bobby Lashley.
SmackDown next week will host two more qualifiers – Logan Paul vs The Miz, and Dominik Mysterio vs Kevin Owens.
In other Elimination Chamber news, Bianca Belair beat Michin tonight to join Becky Lynch as the two participants confirmed so far for the the women’s Elimination Chamber match which will determine Rhea Ripley’s WrestleMania challenger.
On next week’s SmackDown, Tiffany Stratton vs Shotzi, and Naomi vs Zelina Vega will also take place as qualifiers.
Also, the team of Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate beat DIY tonight, meaning it’ll be Dunne and Bate challenging Damian Priest and Finn Balor for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at Elimination Chamber.
