An update has emerged on the controversy surrounding the ending of the King of the Ring tournament, with the original plans for the finish revealed.

At the May 25 King & Queen of the Ring event, GUNTHER pinned Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring tournament.
There was just one problem with the finish of this match – Orton’s shoulder was clearly off the mat for the majority of the three-count.

While this appeared to be accidental at first, the fact that this botch was acknowledged on commentary during the show, then by Triple H after the event, has fuelled speculation that this controversy was planned.
Per Fightful Select, Orton’s shoulder being up for the finish was NOT intentional, meaning that the original plan was for GUNTHER to successfully pin Orton with his crucifix hold without the controversy.

Following King & Queen of the Ring, Triple H stated that he didn’t see that Orton’s shoulder wasn’t down until he watched replays.
He noted that while the referee’s decision was final, he believes that both stars will be up for a rematch after Orton has healed up, noting that the Viper is “banged up”.
One of GUNTHER’s previous Intercontinental Championship rivals could become a free agent soon, with his contract set to expire next week – click here to read more.
