Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munchen: Brutal Bayern hit the Eagles for six

After an eventful summer off the pitch, Bayern Munich dispelled any fears of a transitionary season by demolishing Eintracht Frankfurt. Julian Nagelsmann’s men fired in five first-half goals in a comprehensive 6-1 win over the UEFA Europa League holders as they kickstarted their Bundesliga defence in style.

A trip to the Waldstadion has proven to be Bayern’s kryptonite, with the most successful club in German history suffering 23 losses in front of the Frankfurt home crowd but as early as the fifth minute, the visitors were ahead. Joshua Kimmich shaped to cross a free-kick 30 yards from goal, but the quick-thinking midfielder instead curled in a pinpoint strike to catch Kevin Trapp napping in the Eagles’ goal. It was the 17th time a Bayern player had scored the opening goal of a Bundesliga season and the Champions doubled their lead, almost immediately. Frankfurt failed to clear an innocuous ball into the box which eventually found its way to Benjamin Pavard at the back post for the full-back to rifle home. Oliver Glasner’s side struggled at home last season, with only Arminia Bielefeld and Greuther Furth picking up fewer points on home soil in the Bundesliga. There were no signs of this improving as the rampant Bayern onslaught continued. A ball was hoisted over the top for Serge Gnabry to race onto and the German dinked the ball across the box for Sadio Mané to clinically head in his first Bundesliga goal. To compound an utterly miserable first period for the hosts, Jamal Musiala added a fourth and Gnabry then scored to make it five goals from five different goalscorers, all before the interval. The game was over by the break but Manuel Neuer attempted to keep things interesting when on 64 minutes, the German dallied on the ball too long, allowing Randal Kolo Muani to nip in and grab a goal back to ease his team’s embarrassment but ultimately, not affect the result. Musiala had the last laugh late on, stroking in his second and Bayern’s sixth.
