Powerhouse Hobbs reveals scrapped AEW name

During his early months in All Elite Wrestling, Powerhouse Hobbs had yet to receive his new name and he performed inside the squared circle as Will Hobbs, a smiling babyface.

That all changed in November 2020, though, after the 31-year-old joined Team Taz and was officially renamed 'Powerhouse Hobbs'. Speaking about the name change on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Hobbs revealed Tony Khan originally considered naming him 'Hacksaw' but decided to go with 'Powerhouse' in the end. "Tony [Khan] came up to me, he's like, 'You're such a powerhouse, we're gonna call you Powerhouse Hobbs.' And he actually said he was thinking of one-word names, and one of the first names that he said was 'Hacksaw.' And then he's like, 'No, you're a powerhouse!' So we've been rolling with that ever since. I've mentioned to Tony a few times that if the opportunity comes up to become Hacksaw, that's something possibly that can happen," Hobbs said. Hobbs has been a featured performer on AEW TV in recent months and he and Ricky Starks will challenge Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Sunday's Double Or Nothing pay-per-view. Also included in that match is the team of Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee.
