Major changes to the January 25 edition of AEW Dynamite have been revealed.
On Tuesday, All Elite Wrestling announced that current ROH World Tag Team Champion Mark Briscoe would make his AEW Dynamite debut against Jay Lethal as a tribute to his late brother Jay Briscoe on his 39th birthday.
Fightful Select provided some details on major changes that the Dynamite episode underwent to move things around to make the Jay Briscoe tribute happen.
Ian Riccaboni was booked for the show following the announcement of the match and flew in just hours before the show.
The originally scheduled main event for the program was going to be Darby Allin vs. Buddy Matthews for the TNT Championship. The match still went on, but it was trimmed for some time in order to make room for the Briscoe vs. Lethal bout.
The report notes that The Acclaimed and The Gunns Family Therapy video was also scheduled to go longer, but was also trimmed for some time as well.
One source noted to Fightful that it was impressive how they were able to provide Mark Briscoe and Jay Lethal as much time as they needed without compromising anything else that was advertised ahead of time.
As previously reported, this week’s AEW Dynamite drew over one million viewers for the first time since October 2022.
