Ahead of tickets going on sale for AEW’s historic All In event from Wembley Stadium on August 27, a top AEW star has been in the UK picking fights with a top UK promotion’s world champion.
Whilst speaking at The Love of Wrestling Q&A in Manchester, England, the recently returned Adam Cole would make clear his intentions to challenge for the Progress World Championship.
Daily Star would capture the moment Cole would call out PROGRESS World Champion Spike Trivet, stating that the current champion ‘won’t be holding the belt much longer.’
In response to this Trivet would confront Cole, with the PROGRESS Twitter account uploading a picture of the two men standing face-to-face.
If you’re unfamiliar with Spike Trivet, he’s one of the top heels in the European independent wrestling scene.
It was Trivet’s interference that allowed Jonathan Gresham to defeat Cara Noir for the PROGRESS World Title in March 2022, ending Noir’s record 791-day reign with the gold.
Trivet won the title from Big Damo (fka WWE’s Killian Dain) in August 2022 at Chapter 139: Warriors Come Out To Play.
Elsewhere FTR would also tease a confrontation with the Progress Tag Champions Sunshine Machine with Cash Wheeler saying that he’s ‘sure we’ll become very familiar with them’.
The pair of teases seems to suggest yet another friendly relationship between AEW and a top independent promotion.
It has been heavily speculated that Cole will challenge for Trivet’s gold at Chapter 155: It’s CLOBBERIN’ time, which will take place on August 26, one night before AEW takes over Wembley Stadium.
Cole returned to the ring on the March 29 edition of Dynamite, defeating Daniel Garcia in his first match since suffering a serious concussion at the June 2022 AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.
