Scrapped AEW plans for the ongoing angle between MJF and Will Ospreay have been revealed courtesy of a new report.
On the most recent edition of AEW Dynamite (July 31) MJF accepted a challenge from Kyle Fletcher for a match on the following week’s show.
Although Fletcher’s challenge felt logical given his close friendship with Will Ospreay, it turns out that the Aussie star’s involvement was not part of AEW’s original plans.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that AEW originally had a non-contracted wrestler planned to come in and challenge MJF – but the talent in question was unable to appear due to other commitments.
Meltzer wrote:
By the way, this was a last minute angle. I’m not sure if this was a last minute idea, but the day before AEW contacted a wrestler who doesn’t work for the company and never has, but is a very big physically impressive wrestler and asked him if he could do a two week program, angle and match, but it was too late for him to change his schedule.
It’s not currently known who the “physically impressive wrestler” Meltzer mentions is, but we will make sure to post further updates if this information is learned.
