The backstage reaction to Swerve Strickland seemingly confirming reports regarding a new AEW TV show on FOX has been revealed.
Last week former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland was captured in a video on the Queenzflip YouTube channel, openly revealing that AEW was set to “take” FOX now that WWE SmackDown’s deal with the network had expired.
This followed weeks of rumors surrounding negotiations between AEW and FOX, with the recently trademarked ‘AEW Shockwave’ being speculated to be the title of the yet to be announced show.
Following this, Fightful Select has now shared the backstage reaction to Strickland’s comments within AEW.
According to Sean Ross Sapp, Strickland’s comments were not intentionally leaked, with Strickland being unaware that he was being captured on camera saying what he said.
While Strickland didn’t mean for the information to get out to the public, SRS noted that there were people within the company that wished his comments didn’t get out.
With the wait continuing for any concrete details regarding the FOX deal, an announcement is expected to be imminent regarding AEW’s new media rights deal with WBD.
