AEW International Champion Will Ospreay has praised Tony Khan for the impact he has had on the Aerial Assassin’s career.
At the November 18 2023 AEW Full Gear, it was revealed that Ospreay had signed a multi-year deal that would see him debut as an AEW star in February 2024.
While contracted to NJPW, Ospreay made his AEW debut in June 2022 and made multiple appearances before finally signing with the company.
In a recent interview with The Masked Man Show, Ospreay shared his thoughts on AEW owner Tony Khan, saying:
“He’s super friendly, super nice. I talk to him all the time. He tells me what’s bad, he tells me what’s good.
“I think I might be one of the only wrestlers he’s ever said ‘no’ to. I quite like that.”
Ospreay wouldn’t be drawn on what Khan had said “no” to, only saying that it was a “trade secret.”
Talking further about his relationship with Khan, Ospreay credited him for the impact on his wrestling career, stating:
“I do really like him. I do think he has a heart of gold. What he’s done for the industry is incredible.
“I would have never been an American wrestler without him. I would have stuck with Japan for the rest of my life because I would have never thought this was possible when it came to coming over to America to wrestle, you’d have to move here.
“As much as I do enjoy coming over and doing my visits, my home is the UK. I want to be around my family. That was never going to happen without AEW.
“AEW has come along and now that I’m on weekly television, which I never thought was going to be possible, and my residence is still in the United Kingdom.”
Ospreay has previously revealed that staying in the United Kingdom was a reason he chose to sign with AEW over WWE.
He would also note that the schedule that AEW was offering over that of WWE was a contributing factor in his decision.
