New champions were crowned in the main event of tonight’s July 20 episode of AEW Collision in Arlington, Texas.
Tonight’s show had a different feel to it with it being the first of several ‘summer series’ events in Esports Stadium Arlington, with a new intro theme song and stage set, and now there are new titleholders in AEW as well.
In the show’s main event, the vacant AEW World Trios Championship was on the line as the Bang Bang Gang – represented by Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn and Colten Gunn – faced Christian Cage, Killswitch and Nick Wayne of The Patriarchy.
The title was vacated due to an injury to Jay White, who was previously champion alongside the Gunns.
The Bang Bang Gang were hoping to simply substitute Robinson into White’s spot as champion, but new on-screen authority figure Christopher Daniels informed them they couldn’t do that.
Instead, they had a match against The Patriarchy tonight, which was won by The Patriarchy who are the new champions.
Shayna Wayne, Nick Wayne’s mom, sprayed something in Juice Robinson’s eyes when the referee’s back was turned, allowing Christian Cage to capitalize and score the pin.
