An update has emerged on whether a change had to be made to a championship match at tonight’s AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view.
This past week on Dynamite, there was a #1 contender match to determine who would challenge AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May for her title at WrestleDream.
Originally, that Dynamite match was supposed to be Willow Nightingale vs Britt Baker.
However, it had to be changed due to Baker being unable to travel due to illness.
Instead, Nightingale ended up facing Jamie Hayter, Saraya and Nyla Rose in a four-way match, which Nightingale did win.
A question among fans has been whether Nightingale was the original planned WrestleDream challenge for May, or whether Baker would have won if the original match had gone ahead.
In a new update, Fightful Select reports that Nightingale was in fact always slated to be May’s opponent tonight – had Nightingale vs Baker gone ahead this past week, Nightingale was planned to pick up the win and earn the title shot.
