Nigel McGuinness is having his first singles match since 2011 in an AEW ring and will be facing Bryan Danielson.

The match is set to take place on the Grand Slam episode of AEW Dynamite which takes place in New York on September 25, 2024.
It was announced on the September 11 episode of AEW Dynamite with it further being noted that the match would require Danielson to be cleared to compete.
With McGuinness making his in-ring return at AEW All In London on August 25 during the World Championship Number 1 Contendership Casino Gauntlet, the upcoming match would be his first singles match since December 17, 2011.
Despite his long absence from the ring, McGuinness has said that he feels his tank is “still at full” when it comes to wrestling.

Dave Meltzer has now provided insight into how the McGuinness plans with Danielson came about in AEW during today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:
“From what I understand the whole McGuinness thing was not like something long planned out. It was something that kind of got thrown together.”

In March 2024, McGuinness confirmed that he was back training for a potential wrestling return.
He would also discuss his relationship with Bryan Danielson, noting that they’ve always had a “bickering relationship”.
The pair last faced off in September 2009 at ROH Glory by Honro VIII: The Final Countdown, with Danielson winning that match.
