Championship retired at AEW Dynamite 'Grand Slam'

At tonight’s AEW Grand Slam Dynamite in New York, a special title was officially retired after being successfully defended.

On tonight’s Dynamite, HOOK had a competitive match against Roderick Strong for the FTW Championship.
While the FTW Championship has not been officially recognized in any promotion, it has been defended from the inception at an Elks Lodge in New York to ECW.
However after HOOK successfully retained the title, he and Roderick Strong actually embraced in the ring.

HOOK then exited the ring and joined Tony Schiavone on the microphone where he made an announcement.
HOOK said that the FTW Championship was officially retired and then gave the championship to Taz and told him, “this is yours”.
The emotional moment led to actual tears from the commentator, who is not only a legend in his own right but is in real life, HOOK’s Father.
