AEW Dynamite 19th of April 2023

Among other bouts, Powerhouse Hobbs defended the TNT Championship against Wardlow, and Jay White made his Dynamite in-ring debut against Komander.

In-Ring Segment: “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry
Perry comes to the ring, but he’s immediately interrupted by Sammy Guevara. Darby Allin comes down before Guevara can say anything. Allin says he has known Guevara the longest, but the fans think he’s the least qualified to fight for the title. He says Guevara is a follower and claims Chris Jericho is holding him back. Allin turns to Perry and says he had to work the least-hardest to get there, as he was part of the California clique. He says he was jealous of Perry when he got signed, but he realized he had nothing to be intimidated about Perry.
“Jungle Boy” called Allin anti-social, rude and unfriendly. Perry says Allin is only there because he didn’t make it as a skateboarder. Perry admits that he respects Guevara the most because what you see is what you get, and he puts his body on the line. He says Guevara is a scumbag. Guevara responds by saying Perry is just like MJF, as they were hand-picked to be there. He brings up the first Double or Nothing show, where Bret Hart was in the ring with Perry and MJF. He says MJF and Jungle Boy were on the most recent pay-per-view, whereas he and Allin were not. Guevara says he and Allin are two sides of the same coin, and Darby gave him hope that he could win a title in AEW. He says it’s Allin’s turn to sit back and watch him win the world title. Perry vows to win the world title. MJF interrupts and takes a shot at hometown hero Britt Baker. He tells the challengers to stop fighting over him. MJF says he had a conversation with Tony Khan, and they decided that there will be a Pillars Tournament, and the winner will challenge him for the title at AEW Double or Nothing. He says Allin will get a first-round bye, and Guevara will face Perry tonight.

The Outcasts (Ruby Soho & Toni Storm) (with Saraya) vs. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. & Jamie Hayter
Saraya tries to take a terrible towel from Britt Baker’s mom at ringside. The Oucasts attack Hayter and Baker during their entrance. Hayter rallies, but Saraya interferes. Baker takes the fight to The Outcasts, but they gain the upper hand and isolate Hayter. Baker makes hot tag and clears house with a flurry of offense. She goes for the Lockjaw, but Soho distracts her. Storm goes for the Storm Zero, but Baker counters and hits an Air Raid Crash. Baker and Hayter double-team Storm. Hayter levels Storm with a lariat, but Soho breaks up the pin. Storm hits Baker with a running hip attack. Saraya hits Baker with the title belt, and Storm drops her with the Storm Zero, but Baker kicks out. Storm slams Hayter arm-first into the steps and kicks her arm into the steel. Baker levels Soho with the Panama Sunrise. Baker makes Soho tap out to the Lockjaw.

In an interview, Wardlow looks forward to his TNT Championship match with Powerhouse Hobbs and reveals that Arn Anderson will be in his corner tonight. Anderson asks Wardlow if he wants to do the kind of stuff the Four Horsemen used to do. He says they’re going to start playing chess tonight.

In-Ring Segment: The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks)
Omega says the past few weeks have been some of the most difficult of his life. He recaps what The Blackpool Combat Club has done to him and his friends. Omega says he wished he plunged the screwdri

ver into Jon Moxley’s face. Omega invites the BCC to the ring so they can settle this once and for all. Bryan Danielson appears on the video screen and calls them amateurs.
Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli attack The Elite from behind. They brawl around ringside.
Yuta hits Matt Jackson’s injured arm with the ROH Pure Championship. Yuta targets the injured arm. Castagnoli powerbombs Nick Jackson.
Omega is left by himself, and the BCC gangs up on him. Danielson comes out and calls The Elite amateurs. He says he thought Omega would be a professional, but he was wrong. Don Callis comes down the ramp but changes course and runs away. Danielson talks more trash about Omega and grabs a screwdriver, as he says this house needs to be fixed. Callis comes back, and he has Konosuke Takeshita with him. Takeshita fights off the BCC and squares off with Danielson. Omega rallies and helps Takeshita clear the ring of the BCC. Callis stands tall with Omega and Takeshita, though the Young Bucks look confused.

TNT Championship: Powerhouse Hobbs (with QT Marshall) (c) vs. Wardlow (with Arn Anderson)
Wardlow takes the fight to Hobbs. The champion slams Wardlow with three belly-to-belly suplexes. The match spills out of the ring, and the two powerhouses brawl at ringside. Hobbs gains the upper hand. Wardlow rallies and hits a senton bomb. They trade blows, and Hobbs drills Wardlow with some clubbing strikes. Wardlow clotheslines Hobbs and suplexes him. Wardlow headbutts Hobbs and drills him with a lariat. QT Marshall interferes when the referee isn’t looking, and Hobbs hits a spinebuster for a two count. Marshall argues with the referee, and Arn Anderson gets in the ring. He takes out his “Glock” and points his fingers at Marshall.
Marshall leaves the ring, and Penta El Zero Miedo sneaks up on him. Penta takes QT out. Back in the ring. Wardlow powerbombs Hobbs twice, and he gets the win with the third powerbomb.
Winner and new TNT Champion: Wardlow
Christian Cage and Luchasaurus come to the stage and stare down Wardlow.

Backstage, AEW World Champion MJF interrupts Sammy Guevara’s interview and says he’s offering him a guaranteed spot of the pay-per-view; he says he just has to lay down. Guevara vows to earn the title match. MJF also offers Guevara a blank check, and Sammy writes a number on it. MJF says Guevara has a deal, and they hug.

Jay White (with Juice Robinson) vs. Komander
White controls the action early on. Shawn Spears is shown sitting in the crowd. Komander rallies and sends White to the outside with an acrobatic takedown. Komander goes for a moonsault, but White evades it and slams him onto the apron. White grounds Komander. In the crowd, Shawn Spears holds up a sign that has a “six” on it, seemingly grading White’s performance. Komander fires up with a flurry of offense. Komander blasts White with a thrust kick. He dives onto White at ringside, and Spears gives him a “10.” Komander hits a rope-walk Shooting Star Press for a two count. A springboard Phoenix Splash earns him a two count. White dodges a splash and goes for the Bladerunner, but Komander counters. White dumps Komander with a Cutthroat Suplex. He hits the Bladerunner for the win.
Winner: Jay White
Spears gives White a “5” and doesn’t look impressed. Juice Robinson attacks Spears, and they brawl. White and Robinson brawl with Spears, and Ricky Starks makes the save. Starks sends White and Robinson running.

Backstage, FTR learn that Mark Briscoe got attacked by The Varsity Athletes and Slim J. They go to the trainer’s room and argue with Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt. Mark isn’t cleared to compete, but he pitches a tag team match where FTR would join forces with Jarrett and Lethal.

In-Ring Segment: Adam Cole and Chris Jericho
Cole makes it clear that he respects Jericho, as he has studied him for a long time. He says he even modeled his catchphrase after Cole. Jericho says he has no respect for Cole and says Cole disrespecting him last week. Cole calls Jericho a jag-off and an insecure, stupid idiot. Jericho warns Cole that you never want to meet your heroes.
He shoves Cole, and they briefly brawl. The JAS comes to the ring and attacks Cole. Britt Baker comes down and pulls Jericho off Cole. She slaps Jericho. The Outcasts attack Baker from behind. Cole gets handcuffed to the ropes, and he can only watch as Saraya hits Baker with a kendo stick.

In a video message, Matt Hardy says his team is in charge, and he doesn’t give an answer about The Elite Deletion match. Jeff Hardy says he’ll address the fans on AEW Rampage.

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn vs. Jericho Appreciation Society (Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Jake Hager)
The JAS attacks The Acclaimed and Gunn during their entrance. The Acclaimed rally, but the JAS takes control. Gunn makes the hot tag and clotheslines Parker out of the ring. Hager dodges a Fameasser and slams Gunn for a two count. Parker hits Bowens with a concealed weapon, but he kicks out. Parker accidentally hits Hager with the weapon. Gunn takes his comb and breaks it. The Acclaimed hits Parker with the Mic Drop.
Winners: The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn

Pillars Tournament: “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry vs. Sammy Guevara
The two stars battle it out right away. Guevara dives onto Perry at ringside. He hits a Spanish Fly. Guevara hits another Spanish Fly, and Perry lands hard on the floor. They brawl around ringside. Back in the ring, Perry rallies with a lariat. Perry powerbombs Guevara onto the apron. Perry hits a Canadian destroyer. Guevara spikes Perry on his head for a two count. He goes for the GTH, but Perry counters and hits a reverse hurricanrana. Guevara drops Perry with one of his own. Both men are down after a flurry of offense. They keep going back and forth, and Perry locks in the Snare Trap, but Guevara reaches the ropes. Guevara sends Perry flying with a dropkick, and Perry hits his head on a table at ringside. MJF blindsides Perry, and he gets counted out.
Winner: Sammy Guevara
