AJ Styles has addressed his wrestling future ahead of him challenging for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash at the Castle.
Styles will face Cody Rhodes in an I Quit match at Saturday’s (June 15) premium live event, with Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship on the line.
While Cody Rhodes chose this stipulation, the choice of match type was influenced by AJ Styles faking his retirement before attacking the champion on the May 31 SmackDown episode.
Even though the Phenomenal One’s retirement was fake this time around, the 47 year old previously hinted that he’s in the tail-end of his full-time wrestling career.
Speaking with Cultaholic ahead of this weekend’s premium live event, Styles noted that he’s currently just aiming to have fun in the ring nowadays.
Discussing his goals ahead of his actual retirement, Styles said:
“Have fun, like enjoy every moment of it. Being in front of incredible fans, like a lot of times, especially during COVID, you realize how much the fans meant to you. And I know this sounds really cliche and stuff like that.
“And listen, I’m a bad guy. I’m not supposed to be saying this. But when you experience something that we experienced wrestling in front of no one, it sucked in. So we need the fans as much as they need us when it comes to entertainment.”
