SmackDown star Charlotte Flair has now vowed to break her father Ric Flair’s WWE world championship record.

Ric Flair is one of the most decorated wrestlers in wrestling history, but the legend holds a particularly significant record in WWE.
Alongside John Cena, Flair holds the record for the most runs with a world championship acknowledged by WWE, with 16 recognised world title reigns to his name.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Charlotte stated that it is now her goal to break Ric’s record with a 17th title victory.

Flair vowed:
“I’m breaking the record, I’m so close. For so long, I stayed away from discussing it. But I’ve done every single thing there is to do, and this is my next goal. I want to keep getting better and see where I can take this character.”
“That wasn’t a goal, it just happened along the way. I’m betting on myself being the champion or challenger. Brock Lesnar is the only other person to do that.”

Charlotte is recognised by WWE as a 14-time champion, meaning that she’s three title wins away from this feat.
John Cena previously discussed the possibility of Charlotte breaking this record, stating that he would want to make a return to congratulate Charlotte in person.
Charlotte had the opportunity to claim title number 15 at SummerSlam, when she faced off against Bianca Belair and Asuka with Asuka’s WWE Women’s Championship on the line.
The title changed hands twice that night, with Belair first winning this three-way bout, before IYO SKY cashed in and pinned the EST for the gold.
