An update has emerged on the possibility of a CM Punk vs Stone Cold Steve Austin WWE match, with rumors swirling ahead of WrestleMania 40.

Amid speculation about potential dream matches for CM Punk following his WWE return, it was reported by Fightful that some within WWE have been pushing for the possibility of Punk facing off against Steve Austin, to the point that Punk had even had discussions about the possibility.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Austin has not been approached about this potential bout.

Meltzer explained:
“As soon as that story came out, I heard from a bunch of people who were pretty close in, and they basically said, ‘Probably shouldn’t be doing that one or worrying about that one.’
“Basically, it’s not anything that anyone’s talked about to any degree. I mean, it could happen, and it makes sense.
“As of right now, he hasn’t been approached. He’s not in. I’m not saying he won’t be and that is not their direction.
“I’m not saying that’s like some people thought the same thing you did. ‘Hey, maybe we could do it’…..I would just say it’s premature. I wouldn’t say it’s never going to happen (either).”

Austin notably returned to the ring for the first time in 19 years at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. He defeated Kevin Owens in a street fight in the final match of WrestleMania 38 Saturday.
