WWE commentator Corey Graves has addressed a call he made on SmackDown which appeared to reference CM Punk.

Following Punk’s AEW release in September, it has been heavily speculated that the former world champion could return to WWE.
These rumors have been fuelled more recently by apparent references to Punk on WWE TV, with Corey Graves appearing to drop a big tease on Friday’s (October 6) edition of SmackDown.

Referencing the fact that Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura haven’t paid much attention to Mr Money in the Bank Damian Priest ahead of Rollins and Nakamura’s World Heavyweight Title match at Fastlane, Graves noted:
“The greatest trick the devil ever played was making the world forget that he existed.”

This line got the wrestling world talking, due to its similarity to a line that Punk used during an infamous Ring of Honor promo and then later on during his AEW feud with MJF.
Graves has now taken to Twitter to seemingly address this online buzz.

Sharing a movie recommendation, Graves tweeted:

As alluded to by Graves, the use of the ‘devil’ quote in the 1995 ‘The Usual Suspects’ movie predates Punk’s usage.
Per an earlier Fightful Select report, Fightful “were told adamantly” that, regarding previous social media theories attributing recent WWE dialogue on a couple of episodes of Raw to clues of an impending CM Punk return, those lines were not meant to be Punk specific teases. However, that was of course before Graves’ line last night.

Despite all of that, Dave Meltzer reported on Friday that sources close to Punk said that he and WWE are “in talks” and his intention is to return to the company.
Nick Hausman for Haus of Wrestling also reported that a WWE source has said they feel it’s a “safe bet” Punk will be at Survivor Series in Chicago next month.
