The reason why so few WWE stars switched brands on night one of the 2024 WWE Draft on last night’s SmackDown has been revealed.

The 2024 WWE Draft officially kicked off on last night’s SmackDown show, with many WWE stars now knowing which show they will be a part of for the following year.
However, many fans were left underwhelmed by the Draft, noting that very few wrestlers actually switched brands in the Draft, with Nia Jax, Andrade and Bron Breakker being the only non-NXT stars to change rosters.

On the show, commentary spoke about the idea of ‘protecting your assets’ ahead of the show, and this was reportedly a point WWE wanted to hammer home on the show.
Per Fightful Select, the notion of retaining familiar talent was important, and there are expected to be more swaps made on night two this Monday.

Fightful also notes that more NXT stars are expected to be picked up that day as well.
Carmelo Hayes, Kiana James and Baron Corbin made their way up to the main roster in the Draft last night, with Kiana heading to Raw while Hayes and Corbin are set for SmackDown.
