There has been an update on AJ Styles’ internal status and plans following his return to close out last week’s SmackDown.

Styles made his return to SmackDown at the end of last week’s of the show, laying out Roman Reigns with a Phenomenal Forearm after the Bloodline had kept him on the shelf for three months.
However, Styles would then proceed to lay out LA Knight in an attack that seemed to be a heel turn from the Phenomenal One.

However, an update on AJ’s WWE status and plans has now been revealed, with his character set to be more black and white than a simply heel.
Per Fightful Select, sources have noted that, as of now, the direction in the company is for Styles to be somewhat justified in his attack of LA Knight, akin to that of Drew McIntyre on Raw.

Another source noted that Styles’ situation is more of a ‘choose your own adventure’, though those creative plans could always change.
AJ is set for an in-ring promo on tonight’s episode of SmackDown, which was taped following last week’s episode of the show.
