Cody Rhodes appeared to address reports about the main event of WrestleMania 40 after Friday’s (January 19) edition of SmackDown went off the air.

With there being so many stars who could realistically headline this year’s Show of Shows, there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the WrestleMania 40 main event spot.
With the American Nightmare unsuccessfully challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39, it was heavily speculated that Rhodes would get another opportunity to finish his story at this April’s event.
This was before The Rock’s return at WWE Raw Day 1, where the Hollywood star teased a match against Roman Reigns, which has reportedly been in the works for years.

With The Rock, and the entire World Heavyweight Championship picture, added to the equation, Rhodes’ chances of headlining WrestleMania 40 appear to have drastically went down.
With Dave Meltzer previously reporting that The Rock and/or Cody Rhodes is expected challenge for Reigns’ gold, Rhodes addressed rumors after SmackDown went off the air at The State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Talking to his hometown crowd, Rhodes said:
“Atlanta is my hometown. I’ve done some silly stuff here. Jumped off of a cage that was too high, set myself on fire, got into a fight with Brock Lesnar. I’ve done a few silly things. But all of them were in the efforts to give this city, the town, the community that raised me something to remember.
“When you’re home, you share things that only you would share at home. Here’s one. There is only one thing that makes me tired of coming home. The only thing that makes me tired when coming home is coming home empty-handed. I think we need to change that.
“I am not immune to all the news, everything that’s happening, what will happen, what won’t happen. All I can tell you is this. I’m the right man for the job. I’m the best man for the job. I’m heading into the Royal Rumble, I’m gonna go back-to-back, and I’m gonna bring a championship back home to Atlanta.”
