WWE are reportedly “monitoring” fan response towards the apparent decision for The Rock to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

In what has been one of WWE’s most unpopular decisions in recent memory, it appears following the conclusion to SmackDown (February 1) that The Rock will be taking the place of Cody Rhodes in the WrestleMania 40 main event.
While nothing has been made official as of right now, the stare-down between the Rock and Reigns has all but confirmed as such, with various reports suggesting that WWE will make an announcement regarding the match at a special WrestleMania press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, February 8.

However, until that time comes fans will be holding out hope that the negative backlash to The Rock’s return may alter the company’s plans, perhaps out of fear of a potential scenario similar to Daniel Bryan’s Yes Movement on the road to WrestleMania 30.
While it’s unclear whether WWE will change course, particularly with reports suggesting The Rock himself is pushing for the match to happen, a new update does at least suggest that it could be a possibility.

According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson WWE are “absolutely monitoring the responses” to The Rock’s apparent WrestleMania challenge.
Across social media channels both WWE and The Rock have been bombarded by negative responses from fans in outrage of the decision to remove Rhodes from the match.

Even a top WWE star has gotten in on the action, tweeting ‘We Want Cody’ – with the same message trending on Twitter ever since SmackDown aired.
The negative backlash to the decision has even amazingly captured the attention of major mainstream news outlets.
It remains to be seen how WWE will handle the situation, but make sure to stay locked to WrestleTalk for any further updates.
