A new update has potentially revealed the role of 16-time world champion John Cena at WWE WrestleMania 40.

After wrapping up his most recent WWE run at Crown Jewel 2023 in November, many have been wondering when we will see the ‘Greatest of All-Time’ step inside a ring once again.
Given WrestleMania’s penchant for attracting the biggest stars, it’s an assumption from many fans that we could see Cena feature in some capacity on April 6 or 7.
Discussing Cena’s status in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has shed some light on Cena’s acting schedule and what, if anything we can expect from ‘big match John’ in Philadelphia.

Meltzer writes:
Cena will soon be filming a second season of “Peacemaker”. There has been some talk about Cena at Mania.
It’s basically up to his acting schedule and if there is something going on. If there is, he may appear but couldn’t do anything that would be deemed a risk.
We were told that if he does appear, the idea is to do something fun, short and memorable and with substance.

In news that could potentially impact Peacemaker’s filming, and Cena’s availability – the show’s director James Gunn announced yesterday (February 29) that filming was set to begin on the new Superman movie.
There’s no guarantee that this news will impact Cena’s availability for WrestleMania, but it’s worth noting.
Cena has competed in at least one WWE match every single year since his debut in 2002, with 2023 being his most prolific year in a long while.

Not only did Cena compete against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39 but he also appeared consistently on TV between late August and early November.
