With Money in the Bank now behind us, WWE’s next big event is SummerSlam at Ford Field in Detroit on August 5.
The card for SummerSlam is already taking shape, with six (and a half) matches already confirmed to be planned.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported what those matches are, and while none of them are out of the blue, it does confirm WWE is planning to do them at SummerSlam and not sometime before or after.
The first of those matches comes directly out of the Money in the Bank main event involving the Bloodline, and will be Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso.
Jey pinned Reigns in their tag team match on Saturday so that’s likely the explanation for him ‘earning’ a shot at Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Also planned for SummerSlam off the back of Money in the Bank is Intercontinental Champion Gunther vs Drew McIntyre after McIntyre returned and confronted Gunther on Saturday.
Another championship confirmed to be on the card is the WWE Women’s Championship, which will be Asuka defending against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a three-way.
That’s already been set up over the last few weeks and it looked like it might have been added to Money in the Bank, but evidently the decision is to wait another month.
Sticking with the women’s division, Shayna Baszler turned on Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and their match is planned for SummerSlam as well.
It’s expected that Rousey is leaving WWE soon and she wanted to feud with Baszler before then.
That has actually been the plan all along, and the intention was to do a proper build to the split instead of it being out of nowhere, but because of the delays in them winning the tag title earlier this year due to Rousey’s injuries, they basically ran out of time and just had to rush to get it done now before she leaves.
And then there are two more matches that we’ve known for a while now have been earmarked for SummerSlam, which are Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar, and Trish Stratus vs Becky Lynch.
Logan Paul is also planned for a match at SummerSlam, but his opponent isn’t known yet. Meltzer described Paul’s planned match as “an in-ring showcase”.
So that’s the known planned card so far, which does leave plenty of big names still to be added, including WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley (and the rest of Judgment Day), United States Champion Austin Theory, Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, and a few others, like Edge who returns to SmackDown later this week.
