Details on creative issues with the Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler MMA Rules match at SummerSlam 2023 have now been revealed.

During the August 5 show, Rousey and Baszler faced off in an MMA-inspired bout. The rules of the match meant that victory was only achievable by way of knockout or submission.
It was Shayna Baszler who ultimately stood tall, choking Rousey out after seven minutes of worked-MMA action.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there were issues between the two stars and creative regarding how the match would play out.

Explaining that Rousey and Baszler’s ideas for how the match would look were different to WWE’s, Meltzer said:
“Ronda and Shayna wasn’t the best match or anything like that. There were issues between creative and them as far as how it was gonna go.
“You don’t have knockdowns in an MMA fight and stop the fight and do ten counts or whatever, but you have some people stuck in one mentality of combat and others in another, and it kind of, I think that it kind of hurt it.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match, Dave Meltzer shared a report on Friday indicating that WWE hadn’t settled on exactly what MMA rules meant.
Shayna Baszler has since revealed that she suffered injuries in this bout, which you can read more about right here.
