An absent AEW star has been pulled from an independent show due to injury.
On the October 10 Title Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite, Orange Cassidy defeated Rey Fenix to win the AEW International Championship. Since then, Fenix has been absent from AEW programming.
At the time of his initial loss, Fightful Select reported that sources close to Fenix say that he was facing visa issues that required him to be out of action. However, there may be another reason for the former AEW World Tag Team Champion’s absence.
On December 19, Prestige Wrestling announced that Rey Fenix will be replaced by Lio Rush in his scheduled match against Samuray Del Sol on their January 5 show in Portland. The post reads:

This change to the card is due to Fenix being out with an injury that he suffered in his AEW International Championship match against Jon Moxley from Grand Slam 2023.
On October 2, Fenix took to his Instagram to reveal that he has been dealing with “an old injury” since then. He wrote:
JJA Sport Studio would like to wish Rey Fenix a speedy and healthy recovery.
