Shawn Michaels has shared his thoughts on CM Punk’s WWE return and the dynamic with Seth Rollins during the NXT Deadline media call.

Punk made his WWE return at Survivor Series on November 25, 2023, which led to quite a reaction from Seth Rollins.
Seth Rollins would later be revealed as the planned first opponent for the returning CM Punk, with his reaction on the night being a part of that plan.

During the NXT Deadline media call, WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, Shawn Michaels, was asked for his thoughts on Punk’s return, saying:
“Business is first. For me, I don’t think it was that tough. I’m happy that it got done.
“We have always found that when you can go out on your own terms, it makes it easier. I’m very excited about it.”

Michaels would also address the situation between CM Punk and Seth Rollins during an interview on Busted Open Radio, commenting:
“You want to become that top guy and then you become that top guy and then you see these other people sort of come in and you go, ‘Jesus, [these] part-timers’ and ‘taking spots,’ and stuff like that and then one day you get to the point where you go, ‘I still want to work, but I don’t want to be working all the time,’ and then all of sudden now you are the part-timer. I understand it on everyone’s level.
“If you’ve covered darn near every aspect of this industry, you learn not to judge. You learn not to get upset.
“It’s just one of the necessary evils of the business, but again ultimately it always comes down to what is the bottom line and what is best for business and I think over time everybody understands that.”

Bobby Lashley has also recently shared his thoughts on Punk, saying there’s mixed feelings backstage but he hopes that he can prove his loyalty.
Lashley would go on to say he hopes Punk gets the “opportunity to work his way back up to the top” instead of just being catapulted into that spot by virtue of his contract.
