AEW Dynamite results – May 29, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with the newly crowned TBS Champion, Mercedes Moné, coming to the ring for a championship celebration.
Mercedes Moné asks the crowd if she was worth the wait and once again reminds everyone that Moné changes everything. Moné puts over her Double or Nothing opponent Willow Nightingale, but says that she’s way too nice and she could have told her that Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway were going to turn on her. Moné says she hopes that when she gets back, she kicks Statlander and Hathaway’s ass.
Mercedes Moné says she knows she has a target on her back as TBS Champion and Skye Blue appears on the Tron and reveals that she was the one who attacked Moné backstage several weeks ago. Skye Blue shows up and attacks Moné from behind and lays her out.

They show a video of The Elite arriving at the arena earlier in the day before playing a video package recapping Sunday’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) defeated Killswitch
Swerve Strickland hits Killswitch with the House Call to score the pinfall victory.
Strickland pulls out scissors following the match and cuts off some of Killswitch’s hair in retaliation for what was done to him by Killswitch several weeks ago.

Tony Schiavone announces that Mercedes Moné will defend the TBS Championship later on tonight against Skye Blue.

Jon Moxley is backstage in a stairwell. Mox admits it’s a bad idea to be taking an Eliminator match against Rocky Romero tonight when he’s hurt, but that’s what champions do. Moxley runs down all of his upcoming appearances over the next few weeks. Mox says he will continue to be the man to stand on top of New Japan, AEW, and wherever else he wants to go.

Big Bill and Chris Jericho are in the ring for Jericho’s new talk show “TV Time.” Bill praises Jericho and everything he’s taught him. Jericho thanks everyone for buying his Learning Tree shirt on ShopAEW. Jericho also thanks the crowd for their support with his successful title defense at Double or Nothing.
Chris Jericho brings out “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith as his guest on “TV Time.” Jericho asks him what made him want to get sucked into the Jericho Vortex. Bryan Keith says he notices a lack of respect for him in AEW and runs down his accomplishments. Keith says he can’t believe more people didn’t jump at the opportunity. The crowd tells Keith to “shut the f*ck up,” and Jericho tells them to watch their language that it’s a family show.
Keith yells at the crowd and tells them all to show respect, and Jericho tries to calm him down. Jericho says he respects that Keith is a bad man. Big Bill calls him a bad apple. Jericho says the bad apple doesn’t fall far from the Learning Tree.
HOOK comes to the ring and security tries to stop him and he beats them all up. Samoa Joe arrives at ringside, stares down with HOOK, and whispers something in his ear before leaving. HOOK decides to leave with Joe and not go to the ring.

A video package plays for New Japan and CMLL’s Stephanie Vaquer, teasing her involvement with Forbidden Door next month.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley defeated Rocky Romero in an Eliminator Match
Jon Moxley hits Rocky Romero with the Deathrider to score the pinfall victory.

Samoa Joe and HOOK are backstage with Renee Paquette. Joe says they don’t exist on Jericho’s time and truly dangerous men exist on their own time. Both men walk away.

Don Callis comes to the ring holding a contract for the next member of the Don Callis Family. Callis says he has something important to say, and the crowd boos him heavily. Callis talks about the contract in his hand and says it’s been a pleasure to scout a talent like Orange Cassidy. Don says when he sees Orange, he sees himself.
Orange Cassidy comes to the ring. Callis says this is a moment the world has been waiting for. Callis hands Cassidy the contract, and Cassidy rips it up in front of him. Cassidy says no and tries to walk away but Callis spins him around and says that no one says no to him.
Cassidy takes off his sunglasses and is interrupted by Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander. Hathaway says there is nothing about Orange Cassidy that he likes and says he’s just like Willow Nightingale. Statlander says on behalf of her “Best Friend,” he accepts Callis’ invite into the Don Callis Family.
Trent Beretta appears in the ring and attacks Orange Cassidy from behind. The crowd chants, “F*ck you, Trent!” Beretta busts Cassidy open and then hugs Callis as the crowd chants, “You sold out!”

Daniel Garcia and Daddy Magic are backstage. Garcia makes it known that he wants a shot at Will Ospreay and the AEW International Championship. Garcia says he’s going to climb up the rankings and take that title and make Ospreay’s bag lighter on his international flights.

Mercedes Moné defeated Skye Blue to retain the TBS Championship

Stephanie Vaquer comes out on the stage and holds up on the New Japan STRONG Women’s Championship. Moné holds up the TBS Championship in response, teasing a match for Forbidden Door.

Renee Paquette is backstage trying to get an update on Orange Cassidy, but Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander move her out of the way. Hathaway buries Willow Nightingale and explains why they turned on her when Willow won the four-way that also involved Statlander. Statlander says she does something for herself for once, and she gets booed for it, so she made the change she did. Statlander says she’s done being a protector, and everyone will need protection from her.

The Elite comes to the ring. Kazuchika Okada says shut up, bitches to the crowd. Jack Perry says The Elite runs All Elite Wrestling and brags about how they won Anarchy in the Arena despite him being set on fire. Nicholas Jackson says it’s been a fantastic week for The Elite.
Nicholas says their new shoe is the hottest Reebok shoe in a number of years. They gift Okada a Lamborgini. Matthew Jackson addresses Adam Copeland’s injury at Double or Nothing. Matthew says he told Copeland to break a leg before the match and feels like he jinxed him.
Jackson announces that Copeland has been stripped of the AEW TNT Championship. Matthew presents Jack Perry with the TNT Championship. They are interrupted by Christopher Daniels, who announces he’s now the Interim Executive Vice President of AEW. Daniels says we aren’t giving the title away, and if Perry wants to be a champion, he’ll have to earn it.
Daniels says there will be qualifying matches in the weeks ahead, and the winners will go on to Forbidden Door to wrestle for the vacant TNT Championship in a Ladder Match. Christopher says the first qualifying match will take place this Friday on Rampage.
The Elite tries to attack Daniels, but he’s backed up by The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn.

Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana are backstage. Strickland is curious to know who his next challenger will be tonight in the main event. Strickland wants to know who’s going to step up in his house and get stomped out.

It’s official that MJF will return to AEW Dynamite next week. RUSH is backstage and cuts a quick promo calling out MJF for a future match.
