A new WWE signing has been revealed coming out of the tryouts in Detroit, Michigan during SummerSlam week earlier this month.

The Rockford Register Star ran a story with quotes from former Harlem and Syracuse footballer Josh Black confirming the news that he’s been signed by WWE after the tryouts.
The article states that Black got the call from WWE on Thursday afternoon (August 17) from WWE that they wanted to sign him to a three-year developmental deal.

Black said:
“I waited and waited; but it was so worth the wait. I was a little struck. It was one of those moments, where you are like ‘Is this really happening.'”

Black is listed to be 6’3″ and 290 pounds at 25 years of age. The article states that after playing college football, he “battled for NFL roster spots, first with the Chicago Bears and then the New Orleans Saints, but was cut by the Saints on one of their last roster moves before the 2022 season opener.”
The athletes at the tryouts were apparently told they’d find out almost immediately if they’d earned a contract or not, so he wasn’t expecting to have to wait two weeks. He said:
“I was a little worried, sure, but I knew I had a good thing going. I knew I did well at that tryout. Now, I’ve got a contract coming in about a week, and then it’s off to Orlando (Florida) in the next two or three months for a new life.”

Black wore an “Egyptian God of War” outfit for his tryout, and he’s hoping to take that kind of character forward as his wrestling gimmick.
Speaking about wrestling, which he’d watched since he was a child, he added:
“I just hope it’s something that sticks for me. It’s so much fun. This is going to be my time to showcase who I am.
“I can’t wait to show the world who I am — and what I can do, baby.”
