Cody Rhodes and CM Punk came face-to-face in the ring ahead of the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble, which they’d both vowed to win.

On tonight’s January 22 episode of WWE Raw, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk were in the same ring at the same time for what proved to be an intense exchange.
You can see more from the clip below, but to summarise, while the pair were relatively friendly to begin with, things didn’t stay particularly sweet for long.
By the end of the exchange, they were both heated with jabs having been thrown both ways including Punk telling Cody that since Punk was actually someone who had to struggle to succeed, he was perhaps more of the ‘American Dream’ than Cody is.

Cody would retort that since he actually did the thing that CM Punk could only talk about doing during his infamous “pipe bomb”, perhaps he was more ‘Punk’ than CM Punk.
Punk would go on to tell Cody that he was getting the full ‘Road to WrestleMania’ treatment, saying that he may have carried the company and gotten the cover of the video game, a ‘much bigger star’ was about to come crash his party: CM Punk.
Punk had also recalled Dusty Rhodes asking him to look after Cody back in OVW in 2007, and Punk said he feels like he’ll be breaking that promise because he won’t be looking after Cody, he’ll be looking for Cody to eliminate him in the Rumble.

In the end, the pair would have a stare down nose-to-nose as clearly the friendly feelings had given way to an outright rivalry.
Both Cody Rhodes and CM Punk will be in the WWE Royal Rumble this Saturday, January 27 live on Peacock.
