WWE Tag Team Champion Sami Zayn has revealed that he took a huge pay cut to join the company way back in 2013.

Following seven years on the main roster, a thrilling storyline with the Bloodline, and his WrestleMania 39 main event victory alongside Kevin Owens, Zayn is currently one of the most popular stars on the WWE roster.
Speaking on Whiskey Ginger, Zayn revealed that his first WWE contract was for $39,000, where at the time, he was earning $100,000 on the independent scene.

Recalling his first WWE deal, Zayn said:
“When I signed for WWE, I actually took a pay cut because it’s like, okay, you’re signing for WWE, it’s like the opportunity to make money, right?
“I think my last year on the independent (circuit), I’m throwing all these numbers out willy-nilly, but whatever.
“So, I think my last year on the independent, I made somewhere around $100,000 and I signed my first WWE contract for $39,000.”

The gamble definitely paid off for Zayn, who became the first wrestler of Syrian descent to compete in the main event of WrestleMania.
In the final match of WrestleMania 39 Saturday, Zayn and Kevin Owens defeated The Usos to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.
