The real reason that WWE didn’t keep Randy Orton’s return at Survivor Series as a surprise has been revealed.

After 18 months away, Randy Orton’s WWE return date was officially announced, with him set to be the final member of the babyface War Games team at Survivor Series.
On last night’s show, Drew McIntyre revealed that he was the final member of the Judgment Day’s team in War Games, with Adam Pearce then telling the babyface team that they needed to find their fifth member by the end of the night.

To close out the show, Cody Rhodes revealed that the partner was Randy Orton, though the Viper was not named nor did he physically appear on the show.
The decision to not save Orton’s return for a surprise on the show itself had confused many fans, and the real reason that didn’t happen has now been revealed, and it’s exactly what you think it is.

Per Fightful Select, the reveal of Orton being the partner was done intentionally, as to not have a mystery angle heading into the show, and preventing fans from thinking that CM Punk would be the partner.
Orton last wrestled in May 2022, when the Usos defeated RK-Bro to unify the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
WWE’s stance on a potential CM Punk return is said to be ‘unchanged’ from the previous report.
