A top AEW star has stated his belief that he could do a better job than MJF as the company’s World Champion.

Having now held the biggest prize in AEW for well over a calendar year, it’s easy to argue MJF’s status as perhaps the best World Champion in the company’s history.
Despite the length of MJF’s reign however, there seems to be at least one man in the locker room that feels he could do a better job still.
That being perhaps the star with the most momentum in the company right now: Swerve Strickland.

On the back of huge wins against Hangman Page at both WrestleDream and Full Gear, Strickland has proceeded to also knock off the majority of his opponents in the Continental Classic.
With the win-loss record to back him up, it may not be long before Swerve is challenging for the World Title, something that he feels is in his future in 2024.

Speaking to News4Jax, Swerve affirmed his championship aspirations, while also throwing some shade at his old rival Page:
“Not just any type of gold. AEW world championship,”
“Only to the top and I said in the middle of this year, if I had gotten the opportunities that Hangman Page would’ve gotten my first year, I would have been the first African American AEW world champion.
“And I do believe that. I can still do that.”

Then when asked how he feels MJF is doing as champion, Swerve replied:
“I think I could do better.
“Without a doubt. Without a doubt.”

MJF’s next scheduled AEW World Title defence comes at Worlds End on December 30 from Long Island, NY; where The Devil defends against Samoa Joe.
Despite carrying the company’s biggest prize again in just over a week, MJF has caused a stir by re-iterating that he has still yet to sign a new contract with the company; with his existing deal set to expire on January 1, 2024.
