Dave Meltzer has revealed advice he gave Tony Khan for Sting’s retirement.

On the October 18 edition of AEW Dynamite, Sting revealed that he will have his final professional wrestling match at AEW Revolution 2024.
No exact date has been announced as of yet, but the event has taken place on the first weekend of March the past three years.

Speaking on the McGuire on Wrestling podcast, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer revealed that he had contacted AEW President Tony Khan to give him advice on Sting’s upcoming retirement. He said:
“I don’t remember if I sent – talked or emailed Tony Khan, but I definitely contacted Tony Khan after that final Noah match that [Great] Muta wrestled and I go, ‘This is your template.’”
“You know what I mean. Whenever it comes time for Sting, look for this for ideas because [Pro Wrestling] NOAH did such a phenomenal job.”

Sting took part in The Great Muta’s retirement when he teamed with Muta and Darby Allin to defeat AKIRA, Hakushi and Naomichi Marufuji on the January 22 “Great Muta Final Bye Bye” show.
Under his original moniker Keiji Muto, the Japanese legend had a final retirement match in the Tokyo Dome, losing to Tetsuya Naito before issuing one last impromptu challenge to his old rival Masahiro Chono who picked up a win over Muto on the February 21 “Keiji Muto Grand Final Pro Wrestling Love” event.
It remains to be seen if Khan will actually follow this template to celebrate the legendary career of Sting.
JJA Sport Studio will provide further updates on Sting’s impending retirement when they become available.
