AEW star and ROH World Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara says he wants to his “best version” following his return.
In July, Sammy Guevara made his return to Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling for the first time since February to align himself with Dustin Rhodes. Guevara was absent from AEW/ROH TV after being suspended for not following concussion protocol in a match against Jeff Hardy.
Guevara and Rhodes went on to defeat Undisputed Kingdom’s Matt Taven and Mike Bennett to win the ROH World Tag Team Championships on the August 17 edition of AEW Collision.
On his latest vlog, Sammy Guevara discussed his return to the company. He said:
“What a trip. This was literally my first time being back on the road in literally five months. Had some matches, I felt good out there.”
“The Texas crowd always showing me love, so thank you, Arlington. It was a cool set-up, too. It was a different vibe than the normal entrance set-up that they have. I’m digging it.”
“I made my return, and it was in Ring of Honor, which I think no one expected that, and I see some people complaining online, like, ‘What’s he doing in Ring of Honor?’ It’s like guys, I’m just happy to be back in the ring. It’s been a long time time I was in a ring. It’s been a long time since I’ve been wrestling out there.”
“So I’m just happy. I’m happy with it. Me coming back right now, I’ve had so much time off to really just think to myself, what [do] I want? What does Sammy Guevara want out of wrestling? Truthfully, I just want to be the best version of myself.”
On wanting to be the best version of himself following his return, Sammy continued:
“That might sound corny or generic, but I’m just tired of standing in my own way. I can go and say it’s because of this or because of that I’m not where I am, but ultimately, you have the choice to go and be the person that you want to be, and that’s what I want to do.”
“When I come back right now, I just want this to be the best version of Sammy Guevara, and I don’t want to stand in my own way, and I want to just keep giving my best.”
“Whatever comes my way, whether it’s Ring of Honor, whether it’s Collision, Dynamite, whatever it is, you put me in that wrestling ring, and I’m just gonna give it my all, man, and I hope that I can make myself proud, that in a couple months, I can watch back and say, ‘Hey, you’re doing alright,'”
Sammy Guevara will face Kazuchika Okada in an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match on the September 28 Grand Slam edition of AEW Collision.
