AEW commentator Jim Ross has revealed he wouldn’t be surprised if AEW Dynamite becomes a three-hour show under its new WBD deal.
On October 2, AEW and Warner Bros Discovery announced the completion of their new multi-year media rights deal.
Details of the deal were revealed ahead of the AEW Dynamite Five-Year Anniversary show with the news that programming would also be streamed live on Max.
Jim Ross has addressed the possibility of one of AEW’s television programs getting a longer run-time on the Grilling JR podcast, saying:
“Not totally (would I be surprised if Dynamite or Collision became a three-hour show). I totally wouldn’t be just shocked.
“I think it’d be Dynamite; would be the first preference. So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit and it might be a good idea. Hell, I don’t know.
“You sure get a lot more wrestling on it and it gets more talent exposed which is not a bad thing.”
In May 2021, Tony Khan revealed that he turned down plans to make AEW Dynamite a three-hour show.
He has since commented that he is “very open” to the idea of a move to three hours and that there is a “good chance” AEW fans could see it happen.
With reports that AEW may be introducing a new television show, Meltzer has noted that “Shockwave was always going to be shopped separately” from the WBD deal.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided a financial breakdown for each year of the three-year deal.
He noted that WBD has an option for a further year in 2028 “at a significantly higher number” to the three years.
