AEW star Colt Cabana has provided an insight into his current role within the company, having only competed on the company’s programming twice in the last year.

Despite still competing for various independent promotions, the Chicago-native has transitioned into a backstage producer role, explaining his current responsibilities in a new interview with MuscleManMalcolm.
Although Cabana is not primarily an in-ring competitor for AEW these days Malcolm introduced Cabana as a ‘big AEW superstar’, something the 43-year-old refuted and clarified what he in fact does in his role.

Cabana said:
“I don’t know about big AEW superstar.
“I’m there, I get a check. Sometimes I get on the shows. I do help backstage, I do a lot of producing.”

When asked what recent matches he had produced, Cabana pointed towards the International Title bout between Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta from the August 16 AEW Dynamite, explaining what his over two decades of experience brings to the role:
“I was producer for Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta. I was on the headsets and helping the director.
“As a producer, because I know wrestling, the director might not know wrestling, so I’ll be on the headset and I can kind of see, ‘You might want to get this angle because this might happen.’
“It usually does because I’ve been wrestling for so long, I can foresee it.”

Cabana’s last in-ring appearance for AEW came on the November 2, 2022 AEW Dynamite, where he challenged for Chris Jericho’s ROH World Championship.
While that was Cabana’s last on AEW TV, the former two-time ROH Tag Champion did appear on ROH TV back in April, unsuccessfully challenging ROH Television Champion Samoa Joe.
