Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson has reportedly been released from his WWE contract, amid the latest round of talent cuts.
There had been a number of talent releases within WWE NXT on Friday (May 3), with several recognisable names let go from the company.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer now reports that Gable Steveson has been released by WWE, and was among the releases made on Friday.
After initially signing an NIL deal with WWE, Steveson signed an exclusive agreement with the company in September 2021.
While he was drafted to the Raw brand during the October 2021 WWE Draft, his first in-ring appearance as a signed talent took place at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022, where he attacked another former Olympian, Chad Gable.
Steveson made his WWE in-ring debut at the 2023 NXT The Great American Bash show, wrestling Baron Corbin to a double count-out.
He wrestled on the NXT house show loop for the rest of 2023, before wrestling dark matches ahead of five episodes of SmackDown at the beginning of 2024.
Prior to his WWE run, Steveson made a name for himself as a top amateur wrestler. He notably won a gold medal in Men’s freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Other names let go by the company included Drew Gulak, who was in headlines recently after accusations made against him by Ronda Rousey.
