An update has emerged on WWE’s plans for The Rock’s in-ring return following his match at WrestleMania 40.
The Final Boss wrestled his first full WWE match in 11 years on April 6, teaming with Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Night One.
During the April 8 edition of Raw after WrestleMania, The Rock teased a singles match against Cody Rhodes, but revealed that he’s going to be away from WWE TV for a while.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s “a chance” that The Rock will wrestle later this year.
Noting that a Rock vs Cody Rhodes match is tentatively planned for WrestleMania 41, Meltzer wrote:
“We were told there was a chance of him doing a match late this year, but the Rhodes match was tentatively for Mania, whether Rhodes is champion or not.”
The Rock recently stated that his sights are set on next year’s WrestleMania event, which would indicate that this is when The Rock expects to make an in-ring comeback.
Cody Rhodes recently addressed the possibility of a singles match against the Final Boss, which you can read more about right here.
The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 match marked his first full match since losing to John Cena at WrestleMania 29 in 2013.
The Rock did have an impromptu match against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, which only lasted six seconds.
