A new report has revealed the backstage reaction to Mercedes Mone vs. Stephanie Vaquer’s AEW Forbidden Door match.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, Mercedes Mone defeated Stephanie Vaquer to retain the TBS Championship and win the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.
The bout featured the Long Island, New York crowd loudly cheering Vaquer and booing Mone after the performance of both women.
PWInsider reported that there was a lot of praise internally for the Mercedes Mone vs. Stephanie Vaquer bout within All Elite Wrestling.
The report notes that the praise was specifically for Vaquer in particular who got over so strongly with the live NYC crowd due to her in-ring work.
Mone went into the title for title match with the express goal of “making” Vaquer and that even with Vaquer getting into town late as she didn’t arrive until the afternoon of the show, the feeling was they hit that goal.
Following the bout, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. made her return to the company for the first time since September 2023 to confront Mercedes Mone. Both women will appear on the July 3 edition of AEW Dynamite.
