Ahead of the upcoming pay-per-view, AEW star Mariah May has reflected on the build to their All In London match with Toni Storm.
At AEW All In London, Mariah May will challenge Timeless Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
The bout is the culmination of a 9-month storyline that began when May debuted in All Elite Wrestling as Toni Storm’s protege and understudy. After winning the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, Mariah turned on Storm in a bloody beatdown on the July 10 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Mariah May reflected on the build to her All In London match with Timeless Toni Storm. On the 9-month storyline with Storm, she said:
“I was so interested in the story that Tony told me.
“My favorite part of wrestling is the storyline, and this was an amazing storyline. I was immediately invested.”
On Tony Khan’s idea of a new character for May based on the “Sunset Boulevard” and “All About Eve” films, May said:
“I was a bit of a black-and-white film nerd growing up, especially as a teenager, so I knew all about it.
“I love theater, and I became obsessed with old black-and-white movies. I’d wake up, have a cup of tea, and watch. So it felt like a completely normal idea to me–it tied into my life.
“I wanted to draw from it, but never copy it black and white, no pun intended. I wanted to bring Mariah May into the story, that glamour. And I don’t remember anyone getting beat by a shoe like I did to Toni.”
