A top AEW star has revealed what WWE’s Cody Rhodes was like to work with during his time in the company.

After almost two decades competing on the independent scene, Eddie Kingston received his big break in July 2020 via a match with Cody Rhodes on AEW Dynamite.
Answering Cody’s TNT Championship open challenge, Kingston made an immediate impression, cutting an impassioned promo before going toe-to-toe with The American Nightmare in a bout that went over 10 minutes.
While this would springboard Kingston towards earning a contract in AEW just over a week later, prior to the match he believed that he may have been set to be squashed by the former AEW EVP.

Speaking to Inside The Ropes, Kingston reflected on his experience working with Cody:
“Just like in life there’s good people in pro wrestling and there’s bad people in pro wrestling.
“I did not know how Cody was going to be. I didn’t know if he was going to be like, ‘Who’s the fat indie guy talking all this trash? I’m going to squash him in two minutes to show what I can do.’
“But he wasn’t about that, he was about, ‘No, go out there, talk your s**t and then let’s fight,’ and I was like, ‘Alright, man.’
“I thank him a lot. People could say whatever they want to say, or whatever rumor go out, but to me, he was nothing but a pro with me, so I gave him a lot of credit.”

Since his July 2020 debut, Kingston has become one of AEW’s most popular stars – feuding with the likes of CM Punk, Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson to name a few.
At this Wednesday’s anticipated Big Business event (March 13), Kingston will team with the recently returned PAC and Penta El Zero Miedo to take on The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Nicholas & Matthew Jackson).
