During an appearance on the NFL Network, Tony Khan compared AEW to Pepsi and WWE to Harvey Weinstein, calling them an “evil juggernaut.”
Khan made the comments during an appearance to talk about the NFL Draft 2024, pointing out that AEW is “the most successful sports start-up since the AFL, pre-merger.”
Backstage reaction has been reported from both companies has been revealed, with some taking exception to the assertion that WWE is “evil”.
In an interview led by Dean “Mojo” Muhtadi on TMZ Sports, it was noted that Khan “went viral in a few different ways” due to his comments on “the competition” with Khan noting they got “tons of coverage on AEW” before going on to say:
“I think it is important to say that I think AEW is the best wrestling company in the world in many ways.
“I think that we have the best wrestlers, the best matches, we’ve been putting on the best shows.”
The AEW owner would go on to praise AEW Revolution and Dynasty, Sting’s retirement and a number of matches that have taken place in 2024.
He also stated he would “hold our track record up on anything”, saying that “in and out of the ring, AEW is the very best.”
With Muhtadi also sharing his praise of AEW and Khan’s contribution to the business the interview came to an end.
It was recently reported that Khan would be running AEW shows “remotely” as he continues to sell the storyline injury.
Khan was still sporting the neck brace as a result of the attack by Jack Perry and The Young Bucks on last week’s Dynamite
Muhtadi noted that Tony Khan, at the NFL Draft, was “the talk of the town” with the “football crowd talking about Tony Khan and the (Jacksonville Jaguars).”
Backstage in the NFL, it has been reported that they were “happy” with Tony Khan’s appearance despite the controversial line.
