AEW star Bryan Danielson has been challenged to an MMA fight, following his comments about wanting to have a legitimate fight in the future.
While Bryan Danielson is recognised by many as one of the most talented pro-wrestlers in the world, the former WWE Champion recently noted that he loves the physicality of legitimate fights.
Speaking with the Hull Show, Danielson indicated that he’d be “a little bit sad” if he didn’t get the opportunity to fight someone again, noting:
“The physicality, sometimes you get into a legit beef out there. That’s fun too. I said this to somebody not too long ago. If I die and I don’t get into another legitimate fight, I think I’m going to be a little bit sad.
“There is something innate in humanity. We like to wrestle. Wrestle for play or whatever it is. That is part of who we are as humans.”
Former NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Tom Lawlor has now taken to Twitter to challenge Danielson to a legitimate MMA fight.
Wanting to have some fun with the American Dragon, Lawlor wrote:
As another man willing to get in to a legitimate fight, I hereby challenge @bryandanielson to a mixed martial arts fight. Let’s have some fun! https://t.co/Sr7gy1qm2t

Lawlor was previously a MMA fighter before properly pursuing a pro-wrestling career, with the current NJPW name competing in the 2008 season of the Ultimate Fighter.
He fought several more times for the UFC, most recently at UFC 196 in 2016, where he lost to Corey Anderson via unanimous decision.
Lawlor’s professional fight record sits at 11-8, with the former UFC name last fighting at PFL 5 in June 2021, defeating Jordan Young via unanimous decision.
With Danielson’s history of head issues, some have speculated that the two could face off in a grappling match, or with a ruleset that limits strikes to the head.
Danielson is currently approaching the end of his full-time wrestling career, with the star previously announcing in September 2023 that he only had one more year to go before his transition to part-time.
