Following his return at AEW Double or Nothing in May 2024, MJF has had two matches with no championships in sight.

June 19 saw MJF defeat Rush on AEW Dynamite with AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30 seeing another victory, this time against Hechicero.
The former AEW World Champion has now spoken about the possibility of going after the title again on Busted Open Radio.

With a return that wasn’t built around the quest for the championship, MJF stated:
“I know how to pick my spots. Right now is not the time. I know when the time is. Right now it’s not.
“Swerve is on a goddamn roll … The guy is absolutely locked in. He’s next level right now.
“Do I want to deal with him at the moment, when he’s 100% and I am still healing from a shoulder injury? Do you think that’s bright? I’m a man that picks my spots.
“Everyone else in this company is dumb. Everyone in this company works hard. Working hard is for suckers. It’s stupid. I work smart.”

MJF would go on to discuss Strickland, explaining that he doesn’t like him as he thinks the AEW World Champion should wrestle in a different way than he does.
He would also share his dislike of Will Ospreay, noting that he hates the Aerial Assassin more than he does Strickland.
MJF made it clear that, at some point, he will be taking the AEW World Championship back in the future to kickstart a second title run.
