Former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker says she was “so nervous” prior to her first match since her health scare.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. made her return to the company for the first time since September 2023 to interrupt Mercedes Mone’s celebration after her win over Stephanie Vaquer.
In her return promo, Baker was candid about suffering from a mini-stroke during her extended absence in-ring action.
On the July 24 Blood & Guts edition of AEW Dynamite, Baker defeated Hikaru Shida in her first match back from the health scare.
Speaking with Ringside Collectibles, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. revealed she was “so nervous” ahead of the match with Hikaru Shida. She said:
“So wait, I didn’t just have a return match. They threw me into the fire. They said, here, your first match back, you’re gonna wrestle the longest-reigning Women’s Champion ever, (Hikaru) Shida.”
“So I was so nervous for that match and I am so sore today. I woke up and I was like, ‘Oh my God, my head hurts, my neck hurts, my back’ but, I miss that so much.”
“I missed the aches and pains and everything in-between and I mean, hey, that’s a hell of a win to start out off on is Shida.”
“That’s no joke and every match with Shida is a battle so I’m happy I came out on top and I’m happy I’m standing today. Physically able to stand. It’s great.”
After the match, Baker was ambushed by the re-debuting Kamille who aligned with Mercedes Mone, it is now official that Baker will challenge Mone for the TBS Champion on Sunday, August 25 at AEW All In London.
