The plans for the return of Kota Ibushi to AEW television have been revealed and it looks like it’ll be closely tied to Kenny Omega.

Ibushi’s last AEW match was on the November 15 2023 episode of Dynamite where he teamed with Paul Wight and The Golden Jets (Chris Jericho & Kenny) Omega to take on Brian Cage & The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher, Konosuke Takeshita & Powerhouse Hobbs).
He would go on to face  Naomichi Marufuji at NOAH The New Year 2024 on January 2, suffering a broken ankle that required surgery.
Omega would have his last match in December 2023, beating current WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page on AEW Collision.
In May 2024, it was reported that Kenny Omega underwent surgery to aid his recovery from diverticulitis.

Dave Meltzer has now revealed return plans for Kota Ibushi during Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:
“He’s (Ibushi) coming back to AEW, basically when Kenny Omega returns he’s returning.
“I don’t know if there’s even a date for when Omega’s going to return, I don’t think it’s so far away as before… He’s getting better I know that.”

At the time of writing, there isn’t a return date set for Omega, although NJPW’s Gabe Kidd has been firing shots at the AEW star recently.
Ibushi has recently revealed he will be returning to DDT Pro and confirmed that he considers AEW to be his ‘home’.
