Chris Jericho has gone under many different monikers throughout his career, but has debunked the suggestion that he is a ‘selfish spotlight hogger’ in AEW.
Jericho made his AEW debut in January 2019 and went on to form The Inner Circle alongside Jake Hager, Ortiz, Santana and Sammy Guevara, later adding MJF and Wardlow to the collective.
The Jericho Appreciation Society would follow, with the eponymous star being joined by Guevara, Tay Conti, Jake Hager, Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker, Matt Menard and Anna Jay.
2024 has given us the latest incarnation of Jericho as The Learning Tree, a name he shares with his faction that with Big Bill and Bryan Keith, ‘The Redwood’ and ‘The Bad Apple’ respectively.
With Jericho surrounding himself with so many AEW stars, TV Insider recently interviewed The Learning Tree and asked about claims among fans that he’s ‘selfish and a spotlight hogger’.
Jericho would address the claims, highlighting how being in his ‘vortex’ has led to good things for a number of AEW stars, saying:
“I love using the Jericho Vortex as a positive thing. Not every single feud or story you tell in wrestling will work, but I have to say in AEW that 90% of the guys I’ve worked with and stories told have been pretty good.
“That goes back to day one. I think I worked with Darby Allin in week three without knowing who he was. Orange Cassidy, Jack Perry, Scorpio Sky and beyond that.
“Even Cody Rhodes. Cody was not who he is now. He was a guy who had been a journeyman and then became one of the top guys in AEW. He was earmarked to be, but I did a lot to put a spotlight on him.
“Same with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Hangman Page. Jon Moxley was not Mox and was still the remnants of Dean Ambrose when he came into AEW. We worked together and he was on the road to where he is now, which is completely next level.
“MJF, we worked together for a year. Max became way better after working with me. Eddie Kingston, too. The Inner Circle, The Jericho Appreciation Society, Danny Garcia.”
The August 21 episode of AEW Dynamite saw The Learning Tree defeat ‘Dynamite Kid’ Tommy Billington, with the young star reflecting on his loss afterwards.
Jericho heads to AEW All In London on August 25 to put his FTW Championship on the line against Hook in a Last Chance match.
A loss for Hook would mean that he cannot challenge for the FTW Championship while it remains with Chris Jericho.
